Description
The RED V RAPTOR XL X 8K VV combines large format global shutter capture with high frame rates and an integrated production body. Its 35.4 Megapixel CMOS sensor records 8192 x 4320 images and supports REDCODE RAW up to 120 fps at 8K 17:9. At the wider 8K 2.4:1 format, the camera reaches 150 fps. This combination gives cinematographers detailed 8K acquisition, controlled motion rendering, and multiple format choices for narrative, commercial, television, live, and virtual production.
Global Shutter 8K VV Imaging
The global shutter architecture captures each frame without the temporal skew associated with a rolling shutter. RED states 17 plus stops of dynamic range. RED Global Vision adds Extended Highlights capability for retaining additional detail and color in extreme dynamic range scenes. Phantom Track can record multiple LED instances as dedicated clips for compatible virtual production environments. Image Processing Pipeline 2 supports 33 x 33 x 33 3D LUTs and the import and adjustment of CDLs, giving production teams a structured path from capture through monitored looks.
Recording Formats and Exposure Control
REDCODE RAW scales from 8K 120 fps at 17:9 through 2K 600 fps at 2.4:1, with intermediate 7K, 6K, 5K, 4K, and 3K options. Supported acquisition formats include standard aspect ratios and multiple anamorphic selections. Apple ProRes recording is available in ProRes 4444 XQ, ProRes 4444, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422, and ProRes 422 LT at resolutions up to 4K 120P. A motorized clear filter and precision controlled electronic ND system provide 2 to 7 stops of density. Select 1/3, 1/4, or 1 stop increments to adjust exposure while maintaining the intended aperture and shutter settings.
Integrated Crew and Camera Control
The XL body centralizes monitoring, synchronization, remote control, media, and accessory power. Three 12G SDI ports and a dedicated EVF SDI output provide multiple viewing paths. Timecode, genlock, PTP, Gigabit Ethernet, USB C, dual band Wi-Fi, and the Ambient Communication Network support synchronized and remote workflows. Regulated 12 V and 24 V outputs allow compatible accessories to draw power from the camera body. The Gold Mount configuration uses an integrated dual voltage 14 V and 26 V interface, while the included shimmable PL Mount supports production lenses. CFexpress Type B media handles data rates up to 800 MB/s when RED branded or qualified cards are used.
