Product Description
Leica SL3-P Mirrorless Camera
Precision Engineered for Hybrid Image Makers
The Leica SL3-P Mirrorless Camera is the latest evolution of Leica’s professional SL-System, combining outstanding still photography performance with advanced filmmaking capabilities in a refined, German-engineered body. Built around a newly developed 44MP backside-illuminated (BSI) full-frame CMOS sensor, the SL3-P delivers exceptional image quality, fast autofocus, and professional-grade video tools while introducing workflow enhancements such as Camera-to-Cloud integration and Content Credentials support.
Designed for photographers, filmmakers, and multimedia creators, the SL3-P excels across commercial, editorial, documentary, landscape, portrait, and cinematic productions. Its understated P-Series styling replaces Leica’s signature red logo with a discreet black finish, making it ideal for professionals who prefer a low-profile camera in the field.
44MP BSI Full-Frame Sensor
At the core of the SL3-P is a newly designed 44MP backside-illuminated full-frame sensor that strikes an excellent balance between resolution, speed, and low-light performance. The BSI architecture places electronic circuitry behind the photodiodes, allowing more light to reach the sensor for improved image clarity, reduced noise, and smoother tonal transitions.
The sensor captures up to 14 stops of dynamic range, preserving highlight and shadow detail even in high-contrast scenes. A native ISO range of 50-200,000 provides outstanding flexibility when working in bright daylight, dim interiors, or rapidly changing lighting conditions.
Leica’s Triple Resolution Technology further enhances versatility by allowing photographers to capture images at 44MP or 26MP while using the entire sensor area. This intelligent pixel-binning technology maintains rich color depth and dynamic range while producing smaller DNG or JPEG files for faster workflows and efficient storage.
Fast Readout & High-Speed Performance
The SL3-P features Leica’s fastest sensor readout to date, operating significantly faster than previous SL models. The increased processing speed improves overall camera responsiveness while minimizing rolling shutter distortion during electronic shutter shooting and video recording.
For applications requiring maximum detail, the camera includes a Multishot mode capable of generating ultra-high-resolution 176MP composite images by combining multiple precisely aligned exposures. This mode is ideal for product photography, artwork reproduction, architecture, and landscape imaging where preserving intricate textures is essential.
When speed is the priority, the SL3-P supports continuous shooting at up to 40 fps with autofocus tracking, making it equally capable of capturing fast-moving subjects and decisive moments.
Advanced Hybrid Autofocus
Leica’s most sophisticated autofocus system combines phase detection, contrast detection, and intelligent object detection into a single hybrid focusing system. Rather than relying on one focusing method, the camera continuously analyzes each scene to determine the fastest and most accurate approach.
With 819 selectable autofocus points covering nearly the entire frame, the SL3-P delivers fast subject acquisition and precise focus tracking across a wide variety of shooting situations.
Machine-learning algorithms further improve autofocus by recognizing subject movement in real time, helping maintain sharp focus during unpredictable action. Whether photographing portraits, wildlife, sporting events, or documentary subjects, the autofocus system provides reliable tracking while allowing photographers to focus on composition.
Professional Video Performance
Built with hybrid creators in mind, the SL3-P delivers Leica’s most advanced video capabilities to date.
The camera supports:
-
8.1K Open Gate recording using the full 3:2 sensor
-
8K recording at up to 30 fps
-
5.9K video at up to 60 fps
-
Full-sensor 4K recording at up to 120 fps for smooth slow-motion footage
-
Internal Apple ProRes recording up to 5.8K
-
HDMI RAW output for external recording workflows
The fast sensor minimizes rolling shutter artifacts, producing cleaner motion during handheld shooting, panning, and action sequences.
Professional monitoring tools include False Color exposure assistance, HDMI mirroring for external monitors, and Leica Pure and Leica Cine LUTs for accurate color previews directly in-camera.
Workflow Built for Professionals
The SL3-P introduces a redesigned operating system with dedicated interfaces for still photography and video. Separate workspaces allow users to switch between shooting modes without changing customized settings.
Color-coded interface accents provide immediate visual confirmation of the selected mode, while the display automatically rotates when shooting vertically for improved usability.
Native tethering support with Adobe Lightroom Classic and Capture One enables instant image review during studio and commercial shoots, streamlining professional workflows.
Camera-to-Cloud Integration
Designed for modern collaborative productions, the SL3-P includes native Camera-to-Cloud support through Adobe Frame.io.
Images and videos can be uploaded directly from the camera, allowing editors, clients, and production teams to begin reviewing content while the shoot is still underway. This significantly reduces turnaround times and simplifies remote collaboration.
Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity work seamlessly with the Leica FOTOS app for:
-
Wireless image transfer
-
Remote camera control
-
Mobile workflow integration
-
Firmware updates
Content Credentials
The SL3-P incorporates Content Credentials technology developed through the Content Authenticity Initiative. This system embeds tamper-resistant metadata into supported image files, helping verify authenticity and strengthen intellectual property protection throughout the digital imaging workflow.
Durable German Construction
Manufactured in Germany, the SL3-P features a precision-machined full-metal body designed to withstand demanding professional use.
The discreet P-Series appearance replaces Leica’s traditional red logo with an understated black finish, making the camera less conspicuous during documentary, street, and editorial assignments.
Additional durability features include:
-
IP54-rated dust and splash resistance
-
Ergonomic grip for comfortable handling
-
Programmable custom controls
-
Optimized interface for both horizontal and vertical shooting
L-Mount Flexibility
The Leica SL3-P uses the versatile L-Mount, providing compatibility with an extensive lineup of professional lenses from Leica as well as L-Mount Alliance partners Sigma and Panasonic.
The short flange distance also allows the use of numerous adapted lenses, making the camera an excellent choice for photographers transitioning from other systems or incorporating legacy optics into their workflow.
Professional Connectivity
Built for demanding production environments, the SL3-P offers a comprehensive range of professional interfaces, including:
-
Dual memory card slots (CFexpress Type B and SD UHS-II)
-
USB 3.1 Gen 2 for high-speed data transfer and tethering
-
Full-size HDMI Type-A output
-
3.5mm microphone input
-
3.5mm headphone output
-
Multifunction accessory interface for expanded production accessories
The dual-card configuration supports backup recording, overflow storage, or separate RAW and JPEG capture, while the high-speed CFexpress slot enables sustained burst shooting and high-bitrate video recording.
Combining outstanding image quality, advanced autofocus, professional video capabilities, and modern workflow integration, the Leica SL3-P is a powerful hybrid camera designed to meet the demands of today’s photographers and filmmakers.
